The process to make this photogram was somewhat difficult, my first try it was under the light for too long and didn't work but after i knew how to do it worked fine. The equipment that I used was light sensitive photographic paper and an enlarger first we had to cover the light with the red source and arrange our objects on the paper and expose it to the light for 2-5 seconds, then take it to the chemicals and use the 212 rule with the developer, stop, fix to produce the photogram. The light from the bulb on the enlarger was turned down 2 stops to reduce light and when we exposed it, we timed how long the paper was exposed for to make sure its the right amount of time. I used a range of materials, perfume bottles, keys, a mask, paper clips, string, scissors.
Anna Atkins
About Anna Atkins
-She was an English botanist and a photographer.
-In October 1843, she self published her photograms in the first installment of 'photographs of British Algae.
-She is considered the first person to publish a book illustrated with photographic images.
-In 1854, she worked on creating photograms of ferns, flowers, feathers and lace.
-She was born and grew up in Tonbridge, Kent, England.
-To capture her photographs, Atkins first applied a mixture of UV sensitive iron on plain paper. After the paper dried she would place a botanical specimen and a label. written on translucent, oiled paper.

Pinhole photography artists
The first Pinhole photography artist is Nuala Mahon. She is a photographer working and living on a small island off the south west coast of Ireland. Her main concern is plastic pollution in the ocean that is continually being washed up on beaches near her home, which shows why this is what her work is based off of. She works mainly with pinhole cameras to make of washed up plastic items. Her images are made both on beaches and in a studio. As far as possible, she uses chemical-free processes for developing her work. Most of her pinhole images are developed using seaweed. Here is some of her work:
The second pinhole photography artist is Walter Crump. He was born in North Carolina in 1941 and graduated from the Boston university school for the Arts in 1970. He taught at the commonwealth school, Boston, for many years. He is a fine arts photographer and his primary alternative photography practice is constructing and photographing with pinhole cameras. He also captures the environment with Holga Cameras and on occasion makes cyanotype prints. Some of his work:
Here are images of my pinhole camera:
My first try pinhole camera image.
This image was somewhat easy to complete as we made our cameras in lesson and only had to capture the image ourselves, it was also difficult because I didnt know how long the photosensitive paper would need to be exposed for to print the image- the first try i exposed the paper for too long which made it difficult to make out what the image was originally of.

Pinhole camera research:
What is pinhole camera photography?
what is a pinhole camera? A pinhole camera is a camera without a lense with a very small hole (pinhole). effectively a blacked out box with a hole in one side, light from an area travels through the hole and proejcts an inverted image on the other side of the box- normally onto light sensitive photographic paper.
what are the characteristics of the image formed by a pinhole camera? The characteristics of a pinhole are: the image in the pinhole is inverted as compared to the object, it is real and is of the same colour as the object.
why is light important to pinhole camera photography? Light is important to pinhole camera photography because the light is what transfers the image onto the photographic paper. The camera 'lense' is lifted back and light travels through the aperture and reflects an inverted image onto the paper inside.
