Creative use of lightIn this image, I can see a wide range of people who are all huddled close to each other. Behind these people I can also see that there are buildings emitting a yellow light through windows. The image comes off as a scene in a city and the people in it seem to be the subject or the main focus. However, they seem to be distorted in some way, causing it to be difficult to make out details of the people within the image, like their gender. I was drawn to this picture because the use of light around the people suggests an effect has been placed on them, this is fascinating to me and makes me interested in the image. The image has been composed uniquely, because the people within all see very close to each other, they haven’t been spread apart which gives off a sense of comfort. The space between them is very minimal, which contrasts with the buildings in the background that are further away from one another. The main source of lighting making the people more visible seems to be a 'blob of light' in the centre of the photograph, and the people, which can be made out to be a some sort of pyrotechnic like a sparkler. The pattern in the image seems to be something creative, by this i mean that the people have an odd effect on them which causes them to look blurred. This is different to other images because normally photographers will want the part of the image that is not the focus to be blurred or distorted, whereas in this image the artist has blurred the main focus of the image, which makes it unique because its not something that we would usually see. The tone of this image gives off a 'warm' vibe, this compliments the creative use of light very well. The warm colour is appealing to look at and fits the vibe of the image very well, attaching to the firework or sparklers, it also makes the image brighter. The light is used to manipulate the image in many ways. For example, in the background we can see trees, one of the trees that seems to have lights on it has also been distorted, which shows that not only the people are the main focus of the image. This is because the sparkler closer to the left has also been distorted or blurred, which makes the light spread more across the image. The mood of the image seems to be warm and welcoming, this could be due to the lighting and the tone of the image. This picture can be put under the genre of street photography, I think this because of the buildings behind the people, which shows that they are not inside, and are on the street somewhere.

In my opinion, I think that the artist, Ming Smith, created the image through combining effects
